Another amazing display of culture. This year I even had my own stand to sell some PNG photo’s! Unfortunately I could not have a big supply of prints. If you missed out (some were already sold), it is easy to get a reprint organised, and I can mail it to you. Do not hesitate to contact me. Or, have a look at my other shots, or wait for the 2009 goroka show Gallery to be uploaded (it wont be long.. I promise).
Here is already a first glimpse from today
The Goroka Show is a cultural event (if not THE cultural event) in PNG where many tribes and clans boast there colours while singing and dancing. PNG is the world’s most culturally diverse nation and the Show is a cultural event where different tribes peform their sing sing (dances and songs) in their particular Bilas (traditional dress). It is arguably the largest gathering of indigenous tribes in the world. The staging of the Goroka Show started back in 1957 at the Independence Park opposite the Goroka Main Market. It was first introduced and organized by Australian patrol officers. Nowadays over 100 tribes from all over Papua New Guinea gather in Goroka for the annual festival of traditional dance on the weekend around Independence Day.

This weekend the Goroka Show is on. A festival where all clans / tribes dress up and boast their war colours. Definitely a ‘must see’. I will be posting a selection in a dedicated album. Go and have a look. I appreciate your comments!
